Introduction

Firebird 6 is reliable, versatile and rugged robot for advance research in mobile robotics. The interface is designed to get a user started very quickly. The unique architecture of this robot allows it to be used in many areas of applications such as mapping, autonomous navigation, collaborative robotics, tele-presence and many more. An outstanding battery life of 4 hours provides excellent uninterrupted development time. This robot is currently being used in several R&D organizations for cutting edge research in mobile robotics.

Equipped with onboard computer for vision processing, laser range finder, vision based stereo range finders, integrated inertial correction to compensate for slippage, digital compass, GPS/DGPS receiver, support for Manipulators and Grippers, the Firebird 6 robot is ideal for learning undergraduate and advanced robotics courses.

Support for numerous programming languages means that you can choose from a wide variety of development environments you are most comfortable with. The supported programming environments include C, C#, MATLAB, SCILAB, LabVIEW, ROS, and Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio (MRDS).

3D simulation in Webots, Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio (MRDS) and Gazebo (ROS) facilitates carrying out state of the art simulation based experiments.

Fire Bird VI robot is provided in fully assembled form and is ready to use out of the box. It has high performance gear motors with the quadrature position encoder. Motors are driven by smart motion controller with velocity and acceleration control. Dedicated motor controller with advance motion control provides excellent precision for implementing accurate navigation control. Specially made high grip, sturdy wheels ensure that the accuracy of the motion controller is intact and is not lost due to deformation of wheel and slippage. By selecting correct locomotion drive, robot can be used in indoor and outdoor environment. It is available in different types of drive configurations for different applications. An array of sensors such as, 8 ultrasonic range sensors with range of 6 meters and 360 degree coverage, 8 IR range sensors, 8 ground sensors and a 9DOF IMU sensor are available for carrying out most sophisticated mobile robotics experiments. A wide array of communication interfaces such as ZigBee, WiFi and Bluetooth provides multiple choices for maintaining control over the robot.
