The I2CXL-MaxSonar-WRC is IP67 rated MaxSonar-WRC sensors and now available with an I2C bus interface. This allows for up to 127 sensor to be operated on a single bus interface for multi-sensor operation. This sensor is a weather resistant sensor designed for outdoor detection and ranging.

The weather resistant I2CXL-MaxSonar-WRC is a rugged ultrasonic sensor component module. This outdoor sensor provides very short to long distance detection and ranging in a compact, robust PVC housing. The ultrasonic sensor meets the IP67 water intrusion standard and matches standard electrical 3/4-inch PCV pipe fittings.High output acoustic power combined with continuously variable gain, real-time background automatic calibration, real-time waveform signature analysis, and noise rejection algorithms results in virtually noise free distance readings. This holds true even in the presence of many of the various acoustic or electrical noise sources.

This sensor will typically detect objects from 3-cm to 625-cm and provide sonar range information from 20-cm out to 625-cm with 1-cm resolution. Objects from 3-cm to 20-cm typically range as 20-cm.

  • Resolution: 1-cm
  • Data refresh rate: up to 40Hz
  • Range: 20cm to 625cm (20.5 Feet)
  • Sensor operates at 42kHz
  • Possible dead zone 0-4 cm, objects closer than 20 cm range as 20 cm
  • Operating voltage: 3V-5.5V
  • Average current requirement: 3.4mA
  • Operational Temperature from -40°C to +70°C (-40°F to +160°F)
  • I2C bus communication allows rapid control of multiple sensors with only two wires
  • Easy control of multiple sensors
  • Control up to 127 sensors using two wires
  • Firmware filtering for better noise tolerance and clutter rejection
  • Matches standard electrical 3/4-inch PVC pipe fittings for easy mounting (3/4" National Pipe Thread Straight)
  • Long range, narrow detection zone
  • Status pin available to determine sensor state also Power-up address reset pin is available

Multiple Sensor Reference Wiring Diagram
Adding additional sensors to the I2C bus is extremely simple, as long as each sensor is programmed first to a different address and the bus capacitance is low enough for the pull-up resistors to work properly. GND, V+, SCL and SDA simply need to be connected to the existing wires that the bus operates on. Each sensor can then be addressed individually to perform a range finding cycle or return the range data.
