Introduction

This is RN-41 Bluetooth Breakout Board for the Roving Networks RN-41 Bluetooth SMD Module. This board is an ideal prototyping platform to interface the RN-41 to a microcontroller. It is based on popular 2 x 10(2-mm) socket footprint often found in embedded applications, This RN-41 Breakout Board Modules provides bluetooth connectivity in existing designs that may have based upon the 802.15.4/Xbee standard. It has on-chip antenna which delivers up to a 3-Mbps data rate for distances up to 100 meters. RN-41 module works on 3.3 Volt power supply therefore this Bluetooth Breakout Board is made fully compatible with XBee USB Wireless Module, XBee Wireless Module Adaptor Board and XBee Interfacing Module.

Note: Do not attach this Breakout Board directly to serial port. You will need an USB to Serial TTL/CMOS Logic converter to connect this device to the computer.

RN-41 Breakout Board interfacing with XBee USB Wireless Module and XBee Interfacing Module

Note: To interface Bluetooth Breakout Board with XBee USB Wireless Module user will have to cut the track of XBee USB Wireless Module as shown in following image. This track cutting is necessary because, There is a pin conflicts between Bluetooth board and XBee USB Wireless Module. Cutting this track will not affect normal Xbee wireless communication untill user is not using RTS pin of Xbee module for handshaking wireless communication method.
